California DPR Workshop

September 24, 2026 - October 1, 2026

Navigating Pesticide Registration with the California Department of Pesticide Regulation

Two half-day sessions, 12:00 - 3:00 pm ET

California’s pesticide registration process presents requirements, procedures, and challenges that are distinct from the federal system. Understanding how the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) evaluates submissions – and how registrants can engage effectively through that process – can help companies avoid unnecessary delays and navigate registration more efficiently.

Join HCPA, Exponent, and DPR staff for a two-part workshop offering an inside look at California pesticide registration and post-registration processes. Designed specifically for companies that register and maintain pesticide products in California, the workshop will provide direct insight from DPR staff, practical guidance for registrants, and dedicated opportunities for dialogue and Q&A.

Day 1: Navigating the Registration Process

Day 1 will take attendees inside DPR’s registration process, from submission through review and approval. DPR staff will discuss how applications move through the agency, how workloads and review queues are managed, common submission issues that can result on deficiencies or delays, and preparation for implementation of AB 2113 processing timelines.

The session will also focus on strategies for more effective engagement with DPR, including options for high-priority submissions, appropriate escalation pathways and points of contact, and best practices for requesting and conducting productive meetings with agency staff.

Day 2: Going Beyond Registration

Day 2 will take a deeper look at the regulatory requirements and processes that registrants encounter after initial registration. Topics will include reevaluation, risk assessment, and data call-ins; a CalPEST deep dive featuring practical tips and best practices; and California-specific considerations for Section 3 products, minimum-risk pesticides under 25(b), and pesticide devices.

The session will also explore opportunities to better align data requirements between DPR and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the intersection of California Air Resources Board (CARB) volatile organic compound (VOC) requirements and DPR amendments, and other issues unique to maintaining pesticide registrations in California. The workshop will conclude with dedicated “Ask DPR” time, giving attendees an opportunity to raise questions directly with agency staff.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is intended for regulatory professionals and companies responsible for registering, maintaining, or supporting pesticide products in California.
